Standard contractual terms within construction law

Within construction law, there are a number of standard contractual terms that are often used in the conclusion of contracts, including:

• AB 18: General terms and conditions for works and deliveries in the building and construction industry
• ABT 18: General terms and conditions for turnkey contracts
• ABR 18: General terms and conditions for advice and assistance in the building and construction industry

However, it is important to decide which provisions of these standard contracts should apply. Simply referring to them in their entirety can lead to unfortunate consequences.

Consider alternatives

For less complex tasks, it may be relevant to consider simplified versions of the standard contractual terms, such as:

• Simplified AB 18
• Simplified ABR 18

These versions may be more appropriate and less comprehensive than the full versions of AB 18 and ABR 18.
